Sebastian Ochsenkuhn Tabulaturbuch auff die Lauten (1558) The originals of the files in this directory are in German tab. Ochsenkuhn was unique in using the capability of German tab to separate the parts of his pieces by putting each part on a separate line. If 2 or more parts play the same note at the same time, Ochsenkuhn duplicates the note on all the lines that are playing it at that moment. This makes this book valuable in showing how parts in tab are separated, and would, in theory, make it possible to reconstruct the mensural polyphonic model of each piece. It certainly also serves as a useful guide to playing the pieces. Although the fronimo software does not permit having the same note on more than one line in German tab, I have documented each instance where this has occurred in these files. In this directory is also a font that Arne Harder has created to duplicate the appearance of Ochsenkuhn's tablature: recercar_ochsenkun_9.ttf If you install this font, it will then become available to the fronimo program. You can view the originals at: http://gerbode.net/facsimiles/ochsenkuhn/tablaturbuch_auff_die_lauten_1558/ They are quite easy to read. --Sarge Gerbode
